BRIGHTON & HOVE OPEN MARKET BOOK FAYRE

My daughter Sue and I enjoyed our time at the Open Market Book Fayre on Saturday 24th November selling copies of my book ‘Unexpected Answers’. We were thankful for the advice from the organizers to wear warm clothes as it became quite chilly as the day progressed. Our lunch of the most delicious sausage rolls I’ve ever tasted, went down a real treat. I hope we’ll have another book fayre in the summer.

HURSLEY PARK BOOK FAIR

My daughter and I had a great time at the Hursley Park Book Fair promoting my novel ‘Unexpected Answers’. It was good to catch up with other authors, gaining useful information and sharing ideas. We made some lovely new friends too. Considering there was competition from the England football match, over the two days we felt it was a successful event. Thanks to Glen Salter for his brilliant organising.

LEWES BOOK FAIR

The Lewes Book Fair was primarily traders of antiquarian, collectors and second-hand books. I was the only stand with one book and a new one at that!  The interesting thing was that we had a great deal of interest as visitors were not only asking about my story but wanted to tell us all about their family history. I was pleased with the outcome of the day. Plus, I am building up my experience of book fairs.

UK SOUTHERN BOOK SHOW, WORTHING

The UK Southern Book Show in Worthing was a great success with much chatting to visitors and other authors. Very informative and interesting. Can’t wait for the next one now.

Worthing Show 2018

MARCH 4TH 2018. This is the date of my very first Book Show. It’s the UK SOUTHERN BOOK SHOW in The Pavilion Theatre, Worthing Pier. The show opens at 9am and closes at 6pm. This is a fantastic opportunity not only for me to be able to showcase Unexpected Answers but for visitors to come in and browse book stall of all genres, meet and chat with authors and listen to talks. It promises to be a great day. Come along and take a look. If you love to read, this will be like walking into heaven.

Promoting Unexpected Answers is taking up quite a lot of my time now.

My first success has been to have a double page spread in a free Sussex magazine called ‘Etc’. It was quite a shock to see such a large glossy photograph of my face smiling back at me!

I’m writing to Family History and Genealogy magazines.

Up to date I’ve had ‘Family Tree’ magazine request a copy of the book with a comment that it sounds an intriguing story, so that sounds positive. I will have to wait and see if they actually like it enough to put something in print.

I have even written to newspapers where events featured in the story have taken place like North Wales, Colchester and even Toledo, USA.

Book Fairs are another great way to promote. I am booked in at the UK Southern Book Show in Worthing on 4th March 2018. That will be an interesting experience with many well-known authors who have written numerous books so I will be a very little cog in that wheel, but hey, even they had a first book to promote! We have to start somewhere.

So, I’m not being idle, though hadn’t realised when I embarked on getting the book published just what I would have to do to get it ‘out there’. But it’s no good resting on my laurels, if I want people to read it I have to get out of my comfort zone and just do it.

If you’ve read Unexpected Answers, but haven’t told anyone about it or shared with your real or virtual friends, then may I urge you to do so. Please put a comment on my Facebook page or wherever you bought the book from. There’s usually a link for putting a review, even a word or two is great, it doesn’t have to be a mouthful.

Enough of that for today. I’ll keep you posted on what I’m up to.
